One-Day Celebration Bags $16,448.60

A one-day event has inspired the people of Namuka-i-Lau Settlement in Veisari to boost development in their community.
The Namuka-i-Lau Day celebrations at the Suva Civic Centre yesterday managed to raised $16,448.60.
Namuka-i-Lau development committee chairman Nemani Rokobuli said the day meant a lot to them as they strengthened ties with the people of Namuka, Tai-o-Bau in Tailevu.
“We are happy to be celebrating this special event as our villages are linked together by our ancestors and this is the third time we have been meeting up and we hope it continues like this in years to come,” he said.
Mr Rokobuli said the idea was to connect the children of the two villages and strengthen their ties.
“The event will also allow our children to know more about their relations and links between the two villages of Namuka-i-Lau and Namuka Tai-o-Bau,” he said.
“We also hope to strengthen ties with people of Namuka-Nakelo in Tailevu and Namuka in Nadroga so that our future generations know how important these connections are.”
He said the event also allowed the children to know more about their traditions and culture and most importantly masi designs that they were best known for.
