Three Shave Head For Cancer Drive

Sanjina Narain, Mereani Taginadavui, a survivor of cancer, and Kishan Swamy, took the bold step in shaving their heads in the ‘Go Bald Give Hope’ cancer awareness campaign yesterday at Shirley Park, Lautoka.

The event was initially been planned for the shaving of Ms Narain’s head, however Mrs Taginadavui and Mr Swamy volunteered to shave their heads to help in the campaign.

Ms Narain acknowledged various stakeholders and members of the Fiji Cancer Society for showing their support.

“I had a hard time convincing my mum because hair is a woman’s pride, but her presence here shows her support for me in the cause I have taken,” she said.

“I have gone to homes and saw people who are suffering from cancer.”

She aims to inspire and encourage people suffering from cancer to help in the campaign.

Meanwhile, Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra said more people in Lautoka should in the campaign.

“Cancer is a killer,” he said.

“If you don’t go for early detection and regular check-ups, cancer will kill your hopes. I’m glad that among us there are some people who have been able to fight the good fight and came out victorious.

“We need to be prepared as a community and as a society,” he said.
