Drug Dealer Found Guilty

A Columbian-born American citizen appeared at the Suva High Court yesterday in relation to a drug bust by Police.
The suspect, Aden Alec Hurtado, 25, appeared before High Court Judge Salesi Temo charged with one count of import of illicit drugs.
The Court heard that on February 7, the accused transited from Australia to Nadi. Between the 7th to 10th, his bag was scanned at the Nadi International Airport and found to have contained some iliicit drugs that he admitted was cocaine which weighed 20.5 kilograms.
The drugs which were stored in a container were found in the suspect’s bag after he gave permission to get his bags checked.
The suspect admitted that he had lost his bags and lodged for a missing bag claims with the Nausori and Nadi Airport officials.
He further admitted that he was once separated from his bag when he reached Brazil and someone might have interfered with it or changed it.
Three assessors found Hurtado guilty of importing illicit drugs in to the country while one assessor found him not guilty.
Justice Temo adjourned the case to noon today.
