At least 30 Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) personnel are part of the multinational Combined Joint Task Force led by the New Zealand Defence Force.
They are taking part in Exercise Southern Katipo in New Zealand’s South Island.
On Sunday, local volunteers took part in a simulated evacuation of civilians. Last Saturday the combined force went out on mounted patrols.
The training scenario for Southern Katipo 2015 sees New Zealand deploying a military contingent to help restore law and order in a fictional country called Becara, which is racked by instability and unrest.
The multinational Task Force has been conducting stability, support and humanitarian operations, including the evacuation of internally displaced persons, as they strive to set the conditions for Becara’s economic and social recovery.
Southern Katipo 2015 is the New Zealand Defence Force’s major military exercise. It will run until November 27, with the primary area of operations centered in the Buller, Tasman and Marlborough districts in the South Island.
