A man who allegedly raped his 16-year-old stepdaughter appeared at the High Court in Labasa yesterday.
The man was alleged to have committed the offence from January 1- January 31.
He is also alleged to have been the father of the victim’s now one-year-old son.
The case was brought before Judge Achala Wengappuli.
The victim, a mentally challenged individual, unknowing of her rights and who to turn to kept quiet about the incident until her older sister suspected her pregnancy.
When the sister asked the victim if she was pregnant she said yes then related the rape incident whereby the matter was then reported to Police.
The case would be continued for trial today whereby the victim would be represented by Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) lawyer Amelia Rokovatabua whereas the accused is assisted by Legal Aid.
