The MV Uluinabukelevu is off the slipway and will undergo inspection and sea trial today. Owned by Valesasa Transportation Company Limited (VTCL), the vessel is expected to make its first trip to Kadavu tomorrow.

VTCL managing director Ilaitia Caginavanua said yesterday the company board and management were happy to see the progress of the vessel after being out of business for the past three months.

The MV Uluinabukelevu carrying 32 passengers was stranded on a reef in Oneata, in the Lau Group.

“Our vessel is off the slipway and we are now prepared for survey and that includes a sea trial,” Mr Caginavanua said.

“We are looking forward to normalise our operations with the first trip on Thursday night for Ono and Nabukelevu in Kadavu.”

He said this would be a normal passenger-cargo trip.

“When we were out of operations, our franchaise route was serviced by government boats and also local operators like MV Liahona and MV Sea Rakino.”

The MV Uluinabukelevu underwent repair and maintenance works at the Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited slipway in Walu Bay, Suva.
