I would like to prove to youths that it is possible to start your own business at a young age and be successful in doing what you love the most.

Tumeli Rikamai plans to empower the younger generations through recruiting and employing artistic talented youths in Labasa.

The 28-year-old and founder of Rikamai Designs, said the purpose of starting off the business was to utilise youth’s artistic talents through paintings, screen printing and sign writing as an income generating business.

“The Rikamai Designs started in July this year and we draw portraits, seascape, landscape and we also do screen printing of T-shirts and sulu designs as well as sign writing of banner’s and signboard designs,” Mr Rikamai said.

“Starting the business was not easy but I would like to prove to youths that it is possible to start your own business at a young age and be successful in doing what you love the most.

Mr Rikamai added that there are currently three of them employed at the Rikamai Designs and they all help in portrait drawings, tattoo, and sign writing.

“Business is going better than expected and income depends on the many orders made by customers because we are beginning with something new,” Mr Rakaimai said.

He said next year they plan to adapt and expand the business with their own computers, photocopy machine and even bring in a young talented hair dresser for a more flexible approach.
