Korean Grandparents Praise Education Values

Anna Ju, an American national brought up by her South Korean grandparents was excited to graduate from the Bethesda Little Stars Kindergarten in Labasa yesterday.
The five-year-old was among 37 students who graduated.
Teachers and students prepared a farewell gift for Anna because she will be leaving today for United States to join her parents.
Their teacher Selina Prasad said it was a blessing to teach Anna.
“She has been a positive influence to other students and I am happy we had the opportunity to lay the education foundation in her life which she will always cherish,” Mrs Prasad said.
As a sign of respect in South Korean tradition, Anna bowed before Mrs Prasad and said ‘kamsahamnida’ (thank you).
Her grandparents Jang Dong-In, Youngok Jang, Min Ju and Chung Ju said they were very thankful that Anna received education from this school which was committed, not only to deliver classroom-based teaching, but also instil spiritual and moral values in students.
Suddenly during the graduation, a student walked up and touched Mrs Prasad’s feet for blessing and said “Thank you, madam.”
Wiping tears from her eyes Mrs Prasad said: “I thank my Fiji National University lecturer Ufermia Camaitoga for encouraging me to become what I am today.”
“It is an honour to be called teacher and imparting knowledge to kids is a privilege.”
Her husband, David Prasad, who is the school manager, said they faced a lot of challenges to build the kindergarten.
“Seeing 37 students graduate and giving Certificate of Appreciation to 11 pre-scholars is an achievement,” Mr Prasad said.
“I thank the Lord for his mercy and grace and I have faith that he would enable us to help more kids get pre-school education,” he said.
The chief guest was from Ministry of Education Early Childhood Education Northern advisor, Madhu Lata.
