Asenaca Matameli could not hold back her tears after receiving the Adi Cakobau School dux award during their annual prizegiving at the school hall yesterday.

The 17-year-old said: “Ever since entering ACS, my dream was to either become the school dux or headgirl.

“I did not get the headgirl role but I got my second aim and it was being the dux for 2015; this also makes me sad as it’s also my last year and I will be bidding farewell to the school,” she said.

“It’s quite hard to think back five years ago when I first entered the school and I wanted so badly to put my name on top of the school’s roll of honour and I finally did it.”

Asenaca is originally from Vusasivo Village, Natewa in Cakaudrove and she is the second-eldest of four siblings.

“Receiving the school dux award is my dream come true and my goal now is to become a doctor because I love helping people and I want to reach that goal.” Asenaca said her hard work and trust in God was what pushed her through.

“I thank the Lord for giving me wisdom; I thank my parents and my grandparents, all my family members for their help and support,” she said.

Proud father Semesa Matameli said they were all so proud of Asenaca’s achievements.

“We always pray for her studies and we thank God for His blessings; she is also the first in our family to attend Adi Cakobau and when she became dux, it was truly history for our family,” he said.
