Festive Season Op Starts

The Fiji Police Force have stepped up its fight against drug cultivation and peddling and criminal activities as the holidays and festive season begins.
Police have activated their ‘Gauna ni Marau’ (Festive Season) Operation to ensure the safety of members of the public in the coming months.
A matter of concern now is reliance on those appointed to lead in rural areas.
This follows the questioning of Loa Village headman in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu, who was allegedly found to be in possession of a substance believed to
be marijuana.
Police said the suspect, whose name is withheld for security purposes, had a similar case before his appointment. He was also charged for the same offence.
Police chief operation officer Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Rusiate Tudravu said the village headman was questioned and released last weekend.
“What is of great concern with regards to this case is the alleged involvement of the very person who should be a leading example in his community,” ACP Tudravu said. “It is also worrying because he is looked upon to assist the Fiji Police in the eradication of crime.”
ACP Tudravu said the discovery of the suspect was the outcome of the ongoing “Gauna ni Marau” (Festive Season) Operation throughout the policing divisions.
