Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Bob Kumar is happy with how the Fijian teams are doing in the Pacific Cup in Auckland, New Zealand.

Kumar, who is in Auckland to watch the tournament, said he was happy with what he has seen so far of the team’s performance.

“The competition got off to a good start and I have to say that all the teams displayed excellent football on the first day.

“With a tournament that displays such high standard of football, our teams need to rise to the occasion and that is what they did.

“They are doing very well and I’m happy with what I have seen in how they perform, all I know is there can be more expected from the teams and the standard to lift.”

Meanwhile, Suva coach Gurjit Singh said despite drawing 1-1 with NZFFAI, it has only set the platform for them to work even harder.

“It’s a tough tournament and the intensity is a lot for our players, but it was a good game. We didn’t start off well but we will be picking up the standard as we go along,” he said.

“We used some of the new players for the first time in our first game and there is still some more work to do but we are positive that we will get it right.

“It is obvious that all the teams are looking forward to wining the trophy.

“We are also one of them, but at the same time, we know that it isn’t easy so we will do our best,” Singh said.

In the first match last night AFFA All Stars drew 1-1 with USA All Stars.

The remaining games were still in progress when this edition went to press last night.
