Be Patient, North Consumers Urged

Operation continues as ‘dry spell’ lingers
Fijians living in the Northern Division have been urged to be patient with the water cartage and to use water wisely.
“We cannot predict when this weather condition will finish,” Divisional Planning Officer North Alipate Bolalevu said.
“The Meteorological Office in Nadi has reported that the dry weather condition will continue until the first quarter of 2016.”
He said water cartage to affected families was continuing on a two to three days basis.
“This water is for their daily needs and people are also urged to boil all drinking water as advised by the Ministry of Health,” he said.
So far 14,668,800litres of water has been supplied costing $2200 as the continuous dry spell for the past 18 weeks has not changed. Speaking in Bua at the Provincial Meeting this week Mr Bolalevu urged the district representatives to remind people in the villages to store up rain water as well.
“I understand there has not been any heavy rain, but when it does rain, people should store up rain water and boil them for drinking and cooking,” Mr Bolalevu said.
