Bench Warrant For Sukanaivalu

A bench warrant has been issued against a former Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption employee after he failed to appear in the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday morning.

Suliasi Sukanaivalu, a former assistant complaints officer with FICAC Lautoka was charged by FICAC on one count of soliciting an advantage, one count for obtaining financial advantage and one count for giving a false statement on oath.

Charges

It is alleged that the accused on October 19, 2012, solicited an advantage of $500 from Lautoka resident, Muneshwar Vinod.

Also on the same day, Sukanaivalu obtained a financial advantage of $400 from another person named Aseri Cama knowing that he was not eligible to obtain financial advantage.

In the third count, the accused was required by law to make an affidavit for the purpose of certifying the serving of a notice of hearing issued by the Small Claims Tribunal for which he made a false statement stating that the said notice was served on one of these residents in 2012 at Lauwaki Village.

The accused had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges and was on bail.
