Fijians now have a new way of connecting with their friends and family following the launching of a new app, Matchstix, at Onyx Platinum Nightclub in Suva last night.

Matchstix Fiji general manager Adam Inglis said Fiji was the second country in the world to have access to the app with Cambodia being the first.

“The first country was Cambodia where it went number one on App Store. We are hoping for that too in Fiji. Our Facebook has gone viral and there have been more than 500 messages a day asking for tickets to the launch,” Mr Inglis said.

The app, he said was something similar to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp however it had other different elements that made it different from the other apps.

“The difference is that you are not restricted to your current friends so with Matchstix, it uses your interest and your location to match you with people who think you might be similar to,” he said.

“It’s just a different way of meeting friends who you might not normally see, hanging out in your same group. The chat is inside the app as well and later on they will be introducing photo sharing as well.”

The app targets people between the ages of 18- years to 25- years. Mr Inglis said there have also been interests shown by individuals between the ages of 25- years to 35- years.

“This is just a new way to meet people. People are finding study partners on Matchstix and people to hang out and play rugby with, just something to get out from their circle of friends.

“On Facebook you can only chat with your own friends, Instagram you can just send a photo but we are trying to bring different elements together so you can find new people; you can chat and look at photos,” Mr Inglis said.

He said they had plans to launch the app elsewhere around the world.

The launch included performances from local artists Rabbit, Mynlessme, and Jay Deuce.
