Mom, Teachers, This One’s For You: Losavati

Losavati Diceva was astonished when she was announced the dux of Vunimoli Islamia College, outside Labasa Town yesterday.
The headgirl of the college also won five subject awards (Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry and Geography) together with the Principal’s Award.
“I wouldn’t have received these awards without the support of my principal Subhash Chandra, teachers and my loving mother who has been tirelessly working as a yaqona farmer to support my education,” Losavati said.
“I always tried my best to perform well to make my mother, Kalisiana Gauna, and teachers happy and see that their time invested in my education was worthwhile.
“Being the second eldest of four siblings and without a father’s moral support have been the most challenging experience of my life.
“However, I never had a low esteem because I believe that God is the source of strength and he would never fail me.”
The 20-year-old aspiring to become a secondary school science teacher graduated along with 20 students.
Losavati is originally from Navakuru Village in the Cakaudrove province and has been residing in Korobua settlement in Korotari.
Chief guest Special Administrator of Labasa and Savusavu Town Council Vijay Chand said: “The college management prepared for so many kinds of awards.
“Such initiative encourages students to study better in future which in turn would contribute to good pass rates in college.”
