It was a proud moment for John Wesley College Year 12 student Ilaitia Waqa when he received the Outstanding Athlete Award yesterday.

This was during their annual prizegiving at the Raiwai Methodist Church in Suva.

The 18-year-old won gold medal during the 2015 Coca-Cola Games in the 200 metres Intermediate boys final.

“I thank God for giving me an opportunity to win gold,” he said.

“I train every day to take part in the Senior Boys 100m grade next year.

His father Ilaitia Waqa was a former national athletics rep in shot put, his mother Alavina, a former national netball coach and sister Finau Waqa is a beach volleyball representative.
