It was an emotional moment for Selai Vuetibau’s family after she received the 2015 Lion of the Lord Award at the Latter-day Saints Secondary School yesterday.

The Award is one of the College’s prestigious awards and is given annually to a student selected from year Nine to year 12. It recognises all-round superior performance and achievement for honesty and integrity off and on campus.

“I thank the Lord for this achievement as he is the main source of power and strength in achieving this prestigious award,” Selai said.

The eighteen-year-old Year 12 student is originally from Mokani, Bau, and Tailevu.

“I thank my brothers who are on church mission in the Philippines for their prayers and my sister for her love and support in helping me achieve this award as it is one of the award my family always look forward to,” she said.

Selai’s older sister, Maraia Vuetibau said: “My little sister Selai Vuetibau has always been branded the special child at home as she stood out from the rest of us.

“Lai, as we normally call her at home, is a very bright and intelligent child out of the four of us because she is seen as the most independent child.

Selai said she wants to become a marine biologist in the future after she finishes year 13 next year.
