It is alleged the accused committed the offence when the victim was returning from having her bath.

A 41-year-old farmer of Tailevu appeared at the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday charged for raping an 18-year-old woman on Wednesday afternoon.

The accused, who lives in the same settlement as the victim, is alleged to have committed the offence when the victim was returning from having her bath.

He has since been charged with one count of rape and was produced in Court.

The case has been transferred to the High Court in Suva and will be called again on December 4.

As earlier stated by the Acting Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, those involved in sexual attacks against our women and children would be pursued vigorously to ensure they were brought to justice.

He is concerned that more women and children are becoming victims of this heinous crimes and called on society to assist Police fight these social scourge.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said continuing occurrence of sexual crimes against women and children should be a worry to everyone and not just the Fiji Police Force.
