Timoci Mataikuku aims to represent Fiji in basketball at the 2019 Pacific Games in Tonga.

The 18-year-old laid out his plan after being named the Sportsman of the Year during the Fiji Latter-day Saints College graduation yesterday.

“This award is dedicated to my mother and God for blessing me throughout the year,”he said.

He is from Lawaki, Nakasaleka in Kadavu and is the eldest of three siblings. He is a member the school’s basketball, athletics and swimming teams.

Sports in her gene

Timaima Williams was grateful after she received her Sportswoman of the Year award yesterday.

The 18-year-old said: “My love for sport has finally been rewarded and this award shows that I have done well.”

Originally from Ono-i-Lau, she is the eldest of three siblings and also plays netball and rugby.

“I thank the Lord for His guidance and my mother for her support and advice.

“I thank my father for his encouragement and trust in me that I was able to prove myself as member of the Fijiana rugby squad.

“When we want to achieve something in life it all comes down to how much you will put in to get to the last leg.

“It is my turn to look forward to the future and I will continue to play rugby and other sports.”
