Ba Market Vendors Get Up Close With Acting PM

During a visit to Ba Town yesterday morning, the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, met informally with market vendors and Fijians working at the market.

A-G was in Ba to look at the capital works currently being carried out for the construction of the new municipal market and met with the market vendors, bus drivers, shoppers, taxi drivers and even bean sellers.

Sakiasi Vunivala said the visit was an opportunity for him and many others like him to get close and personal with Mr Sayed-Khaiyum.

“We were all very excited because we have seen ministers coming to people at the grassroots level to hear our problems and these are the kind of leaders we want for our country,” the 41-year-old of Bukuya Village said.

“We also shared a few jokes.”

Many of the vendors shook hands with Mr Sayed-Khaiyum and some even took advantage of the opportunity to take a few photos with him.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said he was happy to meet with the market vendors and listen not only to their challenges, but also to the success behind their businesses.

“This is obviously an indication of the support and good work done by the FijiFirst Government and they have been very appreciative with initiatives that have been implemented at various levels benefiting all Fijians,” Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Many also appreciated the 2016 Budget that was passed in Parliament this week and have welcomed the significant reduction in VAT and duty from 1st January, 2016.”
