Ba Tops 2015 Soroptimist Awards

Soroptimist International Ba (SI Ba) won the top Soroptimist International Fiji Award yesterday in Ba.
SI Ba president Veena Prasad said the award was possible through the hard work of its members.
The club was awarded prizes for: accessing learning opportunities, economic empowerment and opportunities for the employment of women, environment sustainability and the mitigating effects of climate change and disasters. They also received awards for best practicing team and most innovative club.
SI Ba was established 40 years ago with more than 20 members working on a volunteer basis.
Members recently installed solar cookers at HART homes in Ba and initiated the Ba Women’s Forum for Dialogue for girls and women.
Ms Prasad said members had been worked hard to ensure a better life for the people of Ba.
“”Success of an organisation depends on the hard work and support of its members and we are very thankful to be recognised for the work we do.
“Some of the works we did included the installation of solar cookers at HART homes in Ba to improve residents’ livelihood and provide them with clean energy.
“Also we upgraded and painted the nurses’ quarters and we are working on the Shaherikul Cafeteria at the Ba HART where the women will be in charge and they will share the profits among them.”
