The Army cricket team lost against Pakistan on Sunday in the International Defence Cricket Championship in Australia.

Team manager Akuila Nawai said: “The standard of competition is very professional and that includes the turf ground how it is setup.

“It’s a class of its own and comparing the ground back at home it’s totally different.

“And this has majorly contributed to our performance for the past games. We need to improve our ground at home in the international level so that the sport can move up to another level.

“Our cricket players could have a good chance to win if we train in a good ground with good facilities and we hope that this matter has to be looked at,” Nawai said.

The Army team lost to their counterpart Pakistan who collected 378 runs in 50 overs while the Army were all out with 133 runs. But they won against ANZAC Barbarians with 136 runs in 20 overs while ANZAC Barbarian managed 133 runs.

“I am happy with the boys performance even though we lost but that won’t stop us to play the sport that we love,” Nawai said.

“We’re improving as we go along and we hope to win against New Zealand Army in our last pool game.”

The team played eight games and has just won one.
