The 2015 Westpac Vodafone HOTEC Trade Show is not only for the tourism industry but it is an opportunity for all to come and experience and take back.

This was the message from the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto the organisers of the event.

The annual hotel trade show and competition begins today and is held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau Island.

Mr Seeto said: “It will be a very important event in the hospitality calendar. We expect a lot of people to come but it is also a chance for the public to come and have a look.

“Even for people who want to have their houses renovated, they could go there for ideas, products and whatever they need.

“There are many overseas exhibitors that come in year after year and they do get a lot of local support.”

The Minister for Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Siddiq Koya officially opens the event at 9.00am.

About event

Mr Seeto explained: “This is our major event for the year and for our members because it brings to Fiji the latest in terms of what it happening in the hospitality industry.

“This is in terms of technology, food and beverage, fixes and fitting and beddings including machinery and equipment.

“This is a very good opportunity and event for people to update themselves as to what is happening in the industry.”

The show also is a platform to generate new ideas for hotels in terms of its upgrades, renovations and keeping up with technology.

Networking

He stressed the most important component of this event is networking.

“They important thing here is networking, making contacts with people. Even if you don’t actually do the deal there and then there is the opportunity for you to go back to the office to follow up this provides that form of platform.”

It is a three day affair and it will end Friday night with the Gala Dinner to whom the chief guest will be the new managing director and chief executive officer for Fiji Airways Andre Viljoen.
