The Acting Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Siitveni Qiliho will personally deal with the allegation of Police brutality in Lautoka.

He said a special Police team from Suva had been investigating the allegation made by Rajneel Singh of Lautoka.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun yesterday, Brigadier-General Qiliho said he had ordered the team to make a thorough investigation into the allegation.

“This is a new twist in the case as the alleged victim had claimed Police officers had beaten him up,” he said.

He said he was very interested in the new claim because he had warned his officers against this.

Mr Singh, a Lautoka internet café owner, claimed that the Police officers tried to persuade him to change his original statement which he refused.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said if his officers had really beaten the victim, they would be taken to task.

“I will personally deal with them,” he said.

He had earlier told the Fiji Sun that he was also interested with conversations in the emails targeting prominent people and destabilisation of Government.

Brigadier-General Qiliho has again reassured the nation that they should be at peace as everything was under control.

This is the first major case the Acting Commissioner is dealing with since his appointment.

Last night he left for his first official visit to the Kadavu Police Station at Vunisea.
