Tourism Visitor Arrivals Increased

The tourism visitor arrivals until September this year increased by 9.2 per cent compared to last year.
This was announced by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Siddiq Koya yesterday at the 2015 Vodafone and Westpac HOTEC Trade show.
He said the tourism industry currently is the most important industry for the Fijian economy being the largest contributor.
“Tourism, directly and indirectly, employs approximately a third of the working population in Fiji,” Mr Koya said.
“Visitor arrivals until September 2015 increased by 9.2 per cent or 560,179 compared to the same period in 2014 and earnings for the first half of the year also increased by 10.6 per cent to $688.5 million compared to 2014.”
He said the tourism industry is set to surpass the 2015 projected visitor arrivals of 714,000.
“The introduction of the direct Singapore route will provide a significant boost to the visitor numbers,” Mr Koya said.
Mr Koya said the increased marketing budget for Tourism Fiji, as announced in the 2016 Budget, is a timely boost to our marketing strategies and plans.
“A larger budget will enable Fiji to elevate its marketing strategies in the existing markets of Australia and New Zealand and target the emerging markets of Asia – India and China especially,” he said.
“As visitor numbers are increasing, this will lead to expansion of hotels and new developments to meet the needs of the visitors.”
