There was an array of colours as 19 students of Wailevu Sanatan Dharam Kindergarten in Labasa graduated yesterday.

The students also presented dances and various performances to celebrate the day.

The president of the Soroptimist International Labasa Club, Pushpa Singh, was the chief guest who addressed parents and guardians on the importance of early childhood education.

“Every step a child goes through in his or her life is a learning experience.
“By the time they enter into preschool they aspire to become a doctor, nurse, policeman, teacher, lawyer, engineer or any other profession that you can think of.

“Their thinking ability develops and this is where teachers at preschool play a very important role,” Mrs Singh said.

She also urged parents and guardians to respect their children’s aspirations in life.

“Parents should respect their children’s choice of profession and support their career path.”

Proud student, Gideon Nelson Chand of Wailevu, Labasa said he wanted to become a teacher when he grew up.

“I know my alphabets, numbers, all the cartoon characters and I love dancing,” the five-year-old said.

“Being the eldest brother I know how to take care of my younger brother and sister while my parents are busy at work and this is one of the teacher’s duties,” Gideon said.

“When I become a teacher I will teach my students to respect their parents and study hard to make their dreams come true,” he added,”Gideon said.
