Fijian Pearls netball centre Vaiti Waqatabu, is ready to make Fiji proud in her debut for the TFL Fijiana side in Dubai next month.
The Rewasa, Ra native was given a thumbs up by the team management to replace winger Asinate Savu who sustained a hand injury during the Oceania qualifiers in Auckland, New Zealand earlier this month.
“I have been training with the girls for six to seven weeks and I wanted to try out something new in a different sport like rugby,” she said.
A multi-talented player from one sporting arena to the next the nippy half-back proves that she is tough and has proven herself in fitness and has got what it takes in the elite level.
“I have blended in well and the management has been training me with basic skills and with this as my first tournament and I am not expecting much but if given a chance I will give my best and I have been training to play as a halfback and a winger.
Meanwhile the youngest player to join the team is Jiowana Sauto of St John’s College in Cawaci. Sauto was the member of the Fiji womens rugby team that participated in the 2015 Junior Commonwealth Games in Samoa wearing bronze.
“Being named in the squad was a surprise for me because I am the youngest in the team and I am honoured to play with some of the senior players who are more experience than me.
“I am willing to learn more from them and I am looking forward to the tournament because this is the first time to play in such a big tournaments and I hope that I will do my best,” Sauto said.
