For the first time in the history of Davuilevu Theological College two graduates, Joseph Prashil Singh and Viliame Korowaqa scooped the Reverend Dr Vakadewavosa Trophy for academic excellence.
They both graduated with a Diploma in Theology during the college graduation at Davuilevu in Nausori yesterday.
The Diploma in Theology is a three-year course.
Mr Singh, 25, said it was an honour to be given the award and glad to have finally completed three years of theological studies.
He believed it was God’s calling in his life that led him to study to become a church reverend to help spread the gospel.
“This is God’s plans on my life; I was supposed to further my studies on business but then I decided to leave that and join Davuilevu College.”
Mr Singh said, “I was brought up by a single mother and my father left her when she was pregnant with me; since then my mother has played the role of both parents.”
“I thank my parents for always telling me to put God first in everything.”
He will take up his first ministerial post as a circuit minister in Taveuni where he will serve for three years before he is ordained.
Meanwhile, Viliame Korowaqa of Navolau in Ra said it was always his childhood dream to become a chaplain.
“I was working as a delivery clerk for Carpenters Hardware before I left the job and decided to join Davuilevu Theological College three years ago and from then I focused on ministerial studies.
“Today (yesterday) I have finally achieved my goal and now it’s time to go out in the world and spread the word of God to the unsaved and bring lost souls to God.”
