Lal Achieves Dream

Eight years of hard work has finally paid off for Mavishna Lal after she was awarded dux at the J.N Jokhan Memorial School prizegiving ceremony in Navua yesterday.
Apart from being the dux, the 13-year-old also scored the highest marks in Health Science, Maths, English, Social Science, Moral Value Education and Basic Science.
She also scored the second highest marks in the Fiji Mathematics Competition this year.
“Ever since Year One, I have always aimed to get the Dux Award of the school when I reach Year Eight. I know that in order to achieve my aim, I should work hard.
“I usually wake up early in the morning to study, prepare myself for school and I do not waste my time playing. I will always read my books or do something constructive to help me in my school work.
“I have been scoring good marks since kindergarten and also from Year One,” she said.
Mavishna wants to be a doctor in the future.
Her mother Shalini Lal said, “Since Year One, she has been telling us that she will be the dux of the school and we believed her. I usually wake up early in the morning to get her ready for school. Parents should learn to invest more on their children’s education because their achievement will not be any use to anyone else, but the family,” she said.
