Lutua Joins Jets

Fijian Pearls rep Maria Lutua signed with Yorkshire Jets for the 2016 Vitality Netball Super League in the United Kingdom.
The veteran goal-shooter departs the country today.
“It’s a great opportunity and I’m very excited given this opportunity playing in another level in the UK,” Lutua said.
“Playing against some professional players will be a boost and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Lutua was in the UK in 2010 when she was part of the Celtic Dragons’ training squad.
“This is such an exciting journey knowing that I will be returning to the UK to play in a Super League team.
“My aim is to lift my performance and when I come back I will contribute and help the Fijian Pearls get stronger,” she said.
The 26-year-old from Nakama, Macuata received the invitation from the Jets last month.
“I was shocked and happy at the same time knowing this is what I want to do in my career.
“I just want to dedicate this achievement to God, my family and the Pearls.”
Fijian Pearls head coach Kate Carpenter said they always wanted the best for the players.
“One of the things that we talked about is for our athletes to play in high level competition and UK Super League is certainly one of those.
“It’s a great opportunity week in week out and is something that we can’t offer in Fiji.
“The calibre of athletes Maria will be competing against, the resources and the environment to experience and bring the skills and learning back to the Pearls environment,” Carpenter said.
Speaking to SkySports Yorkshire Jets head coach Anne Carter said she was looking forward to Lutua’s arrival.
“Maria is an outstanding netballer and leader on court and we are delighted to be bringing her to the Vitality Netball Super League and Yorkshire Jets in 2016.
“Her experience as the vice-captain of the Fijian Pearls and playing in two World Cups will be invaluable for Jets as part of a new-look squad for the new season,” Carter said.
