Vasitia Defies Odds With Her Awards

Vasitia Vasua defied the odds by scooping five awards at the male dominated school, Ratu Kadavulevu School prizegiving ceremony in Tailevu on Wednesday.
The Qoma Village lass received the Year 10 top prizes in English, Social Science, Basic Science, Commercial Studies and Agricultural Science.
“RKS has become my second home for the last two years and the boys have been like brothers to me; the first time I joined the school, I was kind of scared in attending a male-dominated school, but then as time went along, I managed to fit in.
“I have learned so many things in this school; basically I have come to know more things than a usual girl will know, things like farming and I have come to call the students my brothers,” Vasitia said.
She said her sacrifice and commitment towards her studies finally paid off.
“Today I have finally achieved for all the late nights of study, waking up early in the morning to study and basically working hard.
The 16- year-old said her parents’ hardwork paid off through her achievement.
“My parents put so much enthusiasm on education and I thank them for always motivating us to study so that we can become successful in the future; the only thing that motivated me was my parent’s sacrifice.
“I thank God of his guidance, my parents for their endless support, school mates for being part of my life, teachers for their hard work and my guardian whose is my uncle for his motivation,” she said.
Vasitia said she hoped to become a medical doctor in future.
