7s Tournament for a Worthy Cause

Baba Rugby Club fundraise to build new gym and develop rugby in Levuka
Organisers of the Yalovata Invitational 7s tournament were happy with the first day of competition at Nasau Park in Levuka yesterday.
Tournament spokesman Josevata Tauvilagi said despite two teams not showing up, it was still a success.
While the tournament may have given a platform for local clubs in Levuka to develop, the main objective is to fundraise for a new gym.
“The Baba Rugby Club wants to build a new gym and that is possible through holding such 7s tournament,”Tauvilagi said.
“With the need to grow and develop rugby in Levuka, we need something to help keep the momentum of the teams going and we believe a new modern rugby gym would help achieve that.
“This is the first time we are having such a tournament and I must say, we are really pleased with how smoothly competitions went.
“We played 42 games with 26 teams taking part but despite Army and Moturiki not showing up, the tournament was still a success.”
Tauvilagi said as local teams rarely have game time, it was a privilege to have big teams from Suva taking part.
“The inclusion of Navy, Police, Marist Red, Wardens Gold boost the competition,” he said.
