Year Eight students of Lomary Catholic Primary School in Galoa, Serua, who were involved in a bus accident in August, graduated on Thursday.
They were part of the Serua Kaji Rugby team that participated in the Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby tournament at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
They were involved in the accident when the bus they were travelling in veered-off the road near Pacific Harbour. A woman died during the crash.
One of the students, Year 801 student, Red Frost suffered head injuries. He said he was lucky to be alive and the accident had pushed him hard to study.
School teacher Varisiko Cegutuilagi who was the team manager said all the students who were involved in the accident achieved excellent marks.
“The accident had really driven them to work hard,” Mr Cegutuilagi said.
“They made a lot of sacrifices and the counselling conducted by the Ministry of Education really helped,” he said.
Now he said they were all looking forward to the examination results and were optimistic they would all pass with good marks.
He sad nearly all the students would enroll at the Lomary Secondary School next year.
The Minister of Education had again stressed that all Year Eight students would enrol into Year Nine next year and the examination was just to evaluate their progress.
