The Dreketi to Nabouwalu highway is expected to be completed next month and be opened early next year.

This was revealed by Fiji Roads Authority capital work manager, Ian Hunter, during a media tour yesterday.

He said the budget for the whole project is estimated at about $228m which would cover 70 kilometres of sealed road.

China Railway First Group (Fiji) Limited was the contractor carrying out the project for FRA.

“It began in 2013 and many of the site work have been completed so far.

“They are very well positioned to finish the project by next month, however, there may be difficulties at times for the wet season proper sets in, road sealing works are progressing well, though,” Mr Hunter said.

He said they have used the gantry beam launching system on the larger bridges.

“CRFG is working on all 14 bridges and foundation structures of all 14 bridges have been completed with beam launching remaining on a few bridges.”

Mr Hunter said three of the 14 completed bridges were visited; Nasarawaqa, Lekutu and Navau.

“Nasarawaqa and Lekutu are 70 metres high and long but for Navau it is unique compared to the 14 bridges along the road.
