Saddie Pattie, 13, of Saweni, Lautoka, was named the dux of Drasa Avenue School in Lautoka on Tuesday.
“I feel really proud and happy about my achievement.”
She said she would attend Natabua High School next year.
“Preparing for exams was hard, but maths and English were easy and my family motivated me to study hard.”
Her mother Monique Pattie said: “She deserves it because she worked hard and gave up swimming so she could fully concentrate on her studies.”
She said her daughter did well despite the reintroduction of the Eighth Year Examination.
“The whole new criteria put a lot of stress on her and all the kids because they didn’t know what to expect,” she said.
