Suhayla Bi, of Valebasoga Public School in Labasa, gave thanks to her parents when she received the school’s Dux Award last Wednesday.
Out of the 32 Year Eight students, the 13-year-old lass of Valebasoga scooped the most number of awards.
Suhayla won the Headgirl Award, Best Arabic Student Award and Highest Scorer Award (549 out of 600).
“I faced the toughest competition in my life and I thank my parents for their love and support,” she said.
“Although we are not rich like other families, my parents have always supported my needs and encouraged me to excel in education.”
Suhayla, who wants to be a doctor, advises students to live an obedient life and focus on education.
“I believe that education is the door to making your dreams come true,” Suhayla said.
“Without education dreaming to become a doctor or nurse is impossible.”
Her father, Mohammed Iqbal, the only breadwinner of the family, said he was very proud of her daughter.
“She is very honest and matured in her thinking,” Mr Iqbal said.
“She has never being stubborn, greedy or demanding for things like other children.”
