Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Ben Ryan is grateful for what his players did on board the Virgin Australia flight from Nadi to Brisbane last Thursday

The players and coaching staff helped serve the passengers’ lunch after the flight attendants attended to a sick woman.

Helped by team officials Ryan tweeted: “Fiji Rugby Sevens players serve food during in flight medical emergency, this bunch constantly make me proud.

“Performance analysis shows no plates dropped in team’s meal service- big Viliame Mata serving three at a time”.

Ryan said the gesture didn’t surprise him because they were ‘awesome rugby players’ and ‘awesome Fijians.’

Ryan said the Vodafone Fijian 7s and Telecom Fijiana teams trained together since they arrived last Friday.

“Everyone is settling well and they had a really long journey within 10 or 11 hours just a transit to Brisbane and Sydney for the girls and then into Dubai,” Ryan said.

“We had a few issues with visas but it has been sorted out after 40 hours everyone’s is in good shape and we did a session in the gym and bit of a spin break on Friday night.

“We had stretch and the kickers had a session with a good friend, Jeremy Manning, who used to play for Newcastle RC and now coach and player for the Abu Dhabi Harlequins. So, we’re lucky to have him.”

The men’s team will be playing against Abu Dhabi Harlequins on Sunday evening and in the morning they will continue with their normal training routine.
