For three years Vasemaca Qarau fought the temptations and difficulties in being educated in an institution dominated by men.
She was the lone female student among 17 men in their class.
The three years ended on Thursday for the Nakanacagi villager from Dreketi, Vanua Levu.
She graduated with a Diploma in Theology from the Davuilevu Theological College in Nausori.
“Being in an environment where I was the only woman was a challenge. It was like being put in a lion’s den and I tried hard everyday to fight the temptations that came my way. In the end I have kept my covenant with God.
“I thank God for giving me the strength. Sometimes I felt like giving up on my studies because of a sickness that I had since I joined theological college. Almost everyday I had a headache which affected my learning and trying to pay attention to our lecturer. I thank God for my tutor, Reverend Dr Jerusha Neal for her encouragement to complete the three years at Davuilevu.
“The environment I was put in and the temptations I faced were tests against my faith and I knew God put me in that situation to prepare myself towards my ministerial posting after studies,” she said.

Temptation
The 30-year-old advised young women to keep their covenant with God.
“Every young woman face temptations, but it depends on how they handle the situation. I received blessings from God because I kept my covenant with Him by basically being faithful to Him and maintaining my purity.
“I wish my grandmother who passed away few months ago was still around to witness this special day.
“She has been looking after me since I was six months old. I dedicate my success to her.
“I thank God, my grandmother for her guidance for the last three years and my tutors for their support,” Ms Qarau said.
