Wardens Gold defeated Police Blues 24-17 in the Cup final of the Yalovata 7s tournament in Levuka yesterday.

The team won $5000 while Police returned home $2000 richer.

Yalovata Rugby Club chairman Josevata Taucilagi said despite the lack of sponsors they managed to host the tournament.

“We approached some of companies to assist us and a few responded.

“Next year the prizemoney will be increased to $15000 and we’re grateful to Reverend Keasi Kalou for giving us $5000 plus the $10,000 we had collected.”

The Wardens teams, Police, Navy and Ratu Filise from Nadroga took part.

“Army Red didn’t turn up along with Moturiki, Hideaway Hurricanes, Tabadamu, Uluinakau withdrew in the last minute. But we’re thankful to Marist Red and a team from Tailevu.

“Next year these teams we’ll be given a first chance to play.”

Meanwhile, Reverend Keasi Kalou was the happiest man at Nasau Park. My son played for St John that won the Bowl final and was happy to watch him play”he said.
