The CBee 16 Girl Guides Jamboree tour of Christchurch, New Zealand, will include seven of our young girl guides, says St Joseph the Worker Girl Guide leader Alisi Roqica.
“This New Zealand tour is an opportunity for the girls to learn new things as this will also be their first overseas trip,” Mrs Roqica said.
The girl guides and leaders will take part in water-based activities where they will learn to kayak, make a raft, sail a boat or ride in the rubber duckie while land-based activities will include hiking.
Mrs Roqica said, “We encourage our girls to enter the Brownies group from years one to five and Girl Guides for years six to eight as the programmes will be helpful to them in the future.
“The activities they will learn from these groups will not only give them a bit of fun but will allow them to be more responsible and become independent, creative and most of all to be good leaders.”
Mrs Roqica said the school had hosted a girl guide camp early last month for the Nasinu and Suva district Girl Guides as part of learning new things from each other.
“In these camps the girls learn to make a suitable fireplace for a weekend camp and to know how to collect and stack firewood, knit a cap, hood and mittens,” she said.
Sainimili Adiama, 13, said this was her first overseas tour and she would try and learn about other cultures and at the same time teach girls from other countries about the Fijian culture and language.
The group will accompany other girl guides from other schools within the Nasinu and Suva district that will represent Fiji to New Zealand.
