EDITORIAL: A Sign Of Confidence In Our Tourism Sector

Rosie Holidays has yet again set another benchmark for our tourism industry with its most recent $5 million investment in its fleet and fleet facility.
The past week saw the opening of Rosie Holidays’ $2 million state-of-the-art fleet engineering depot with full Swedish Scania coach certification.
This was part of its $5 million re-investment package into its transportation fleet in the past 12 months.
The facility at Nadi has a control centre which will monitor all movements, maintenance and fleet cleaning services of Rosie Holidays’ 100 vehicles.
Rationale behind the move – it’s obvious – our growing tourism industry and providing enhanced services to our tourists.
As the industry grows and we attract more and more tourists, the expectations of the tourists also increase.
Remember, no tourist would want to buy a vehicle in the country they visit to take them around. But they do need transportation – whether it be to take them to and from the airport or any other destinations.
Rosie Holidays attracts customers (tourists) from over 48 different countries and these are modern countries where technology and transportation are among the best.
Therefore, when people from there come to Fiji, their expectation would be similar if not better. Getting off the plane and getting into a bus or a rental which breaks down even before they reach their hotel would not leave a good impression.
Put yourself in a tourists shoes and imagine when you travel to other countries – how would you feel?
Therefore, such investments as this provide a boost for the industry and set an example and a benchmark for others.
A Fijian family owned business, Rosie Holidays is Fiji’s largest consolidated travel company with a highly diversified portfolio of tourism investments.
It has become an industry icon, underscored by repeated awards for its service and achievements. No wonder it is synonymous with pioneering of innovation and operational excellence in Fijian tourism.
Founded by the pioneering Roy and Rose Whitton, one of the company’s biggest strengths is that it remains family-owned and operated. That means they and all who work in the group take a very strong personal interest in every tourist they look after.
Roy and Rose’s son, the visionary Tony Whitton, is now managing director. Roy died in 2009 but Rose still takes an active daily interest in the company that bears her name. She had an honoured place at last week’s opening.
She would have been pleased to see how the group continues to lead.
The Rosie Group, for example, has led the way in such emerging markets as China. It operates offices in three major Chinese cities and this year launched the first direct charter flights from China to Fiji. It also developed, owns and operates leading high-end resorts Likuliku Lagoon Resort and Malolo Island Resort in the Mamanucas.
With such vision and commitment, it is no wonder the company is one of the true leaders in our tourism industry. And has a strong belief in continuing investment and growth in Fiji
