Reviving Traditional Art Is Vital For Culture

Reviving customs, traditions and arts for our youths is vital, says National Youth Council president Wiliame Nayacatabu.
“Our main aim is to connect youths with their culture as most of them have lost touch with their traditions.
“It is also to help them with projects that will later earn them a livin as most of them are unemployed,” he said.
Mr Nayatabu made the comments at the Provincial Youth Forum of Fiji bazaar at Carpenters Foreshore in Suva last Friday.
“This is the first time we’re holding a big bazaar like this and our aim is to distribute the money raised equally to the 14 provinces including Rabi, Rotuma and Kioa.”
The theme of the two-day bazaar was, ‘Youth, Our Identity Towards a Developed Fiji.’
Mr Nayacatabu said: “Most youths get too involved with developments and this kind of event will help the youths know and maintain the importance of their culture.”
Meanwhile, provincial youth president John Tamani said youths faced a lot of issues in terms of funding income-generating projects.
And this was why they had came up with the idea of holding the bazaar.
“Youths get to display their handicrafts representing aspects of what their province is best known for,” he said.
The Provincial Youth Forum of Fiji bazaar raised a total of $17,392 last week.
