Supervise your children: Reddy

The Fiji Police Force and Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy has urged parents to supervise their children during the school holidays.
Mr Reddy has urged parents to let their children to take part in extracurricular activities during the holiday.
“My advice to parents is to ensure that your children spend quality time in sports and recreational activities,” he said.
The Minister said it was important for the parents to let their children participate in some kind of sports.
“Not every one can play rugby, soccer netball or basketball but they might be interested in other sporting events.
“Parents should plan out this seven-week holiday for their children,” Mr Reddy said.
He said parents should give their children a good break this holiday and development their child other skills.
Meanwhile, Fiji Police Force is appealing to parents and guardians to look after their children during this school holidays.
Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said: “Parents and guardians need to supervise their children at all times.”
He said during the vacation the children are at home the whole time with their family and are not in school.
“It very important that parents and guardians engage their children in other activities,” he said.
Inspector Sokomuri said the weather was very hot and the children would be trying to cool themselves off in the sea or river. They need adult supervision.
“Fiji Police are very serious about this because in the past we have been observing a lot of drowning incidents.”
