What happened: The Ba women’s football team defended the Fiji Football  Inter-District Championships title defeating Rewa 2-0 at Govind Park in Ba yesterday.

In the semifinal, Ba defeated Labasa 1-0 while Rewa edged Lautoka 3-2 on penalty kicks after both teams were locked scoreless at fulltime.

Nadroga took out the Premier division defeating Suva 6-0 in the final.

The ‘Women in Black’ were the talk of the day as they displayed an outstanding performance in the final. Striker Luisa Tamanitoakula scored the first goal in the 35th minute.

Half time:  Ba 1-0 Rewa

Ba kept dominating in the second half as Cema Naisau extended the lead in the last quarter.

Rewa could not even score after being awarded a penalty.

Star turn: Naisau was brilliant throughout for Ba.

Big play: Ba defied all odds defending their IDC title for another year.

Comments:

Ba manager Dale Ting said: “I am very proud of what the girls achieved. They were just excellent and deserved winners.”

Rewa coach Marika Rodu said: “The girls have showed what they are capable of and the future look looks bright for them.”

Meanwhile, Ba received $2000 for the victory while Rewa walked away with $1000.
