$140K For Our Girls

The Fijian National Sports Commission presented $140,000 to the Fiji Football Association yesterday.

The assistance is to fund the National girls’ team for the OFC U17 tournament in Cook Islands in January.

“This is a special grant because this year we have distributed more money for our youth teams,” Commission chairman Peter Mazey said.

“This includes our Under-19 cricket team, U17 men’s soccer team and now we’re doing it for the U17 girls’ football team.

“We’re developing women in all sports so we’re hoping that football will be a success like our women rugby team, the Telecom Fijiana.

Fiji is Group B pooled with Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands and will depart on January 13.

The winner of the 2016 OFC U-17 Women’s Championship qualifies for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2016 in Jordan.
