Two former employees of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority (FRCA) were granted bail variations yesterday by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Avinesh Lal and Pritam Singh appeared before Magistrate Jageeth Somaratne.

It is alleged that while Lal and Singh were employed as an auditor and a tax officer at FRCA, they allegedly solicited $15,000 from a businessman as an inducement.

Defence lawyer Mehboob Raza told the court that from the time both the accused were charged, they have been reporting to the Nausori Police Station every week. He then asked the court if a bail variation could be made where Lal and Singh were to report to the station once a month.

Magistrate Somaratne granted this and ruled that Lal and Singh report to the Nausori Police Station once on the last week of every month. The Defence has also been given time to provide the voir dire grounds.

The case has been adjourned to February 26 next year and bail has been extended for Lal and Singh.
