Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is returning home early from COP21 in Paris, because of the death of his elder brother, Ratu Meli Bainimarama.

He left Paris soon after he delivered his address and was coming through Los Angeles.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, has stepped up to fill the seat on  behalf of Mr Bainimarama and finish the COP21 meeting.

Mr Bainimarama was supposed to be back in the country on December 18 after attending a series of meetings overseas.

Fiji Sports Council chief executive officer and daughter of the PM, Litiana Loabuka, said all releases about her uncle’s funeral arrangements would come from either the PM or the Commissioner Central, Meleti Bainimarama.

The Commissioner Central yesterday confirmed that they had a family meeting.

In this meeting the family had appointed family member Inoke Bainimarama to be their official spokesperson.

He said after the meeting that they were waiting for the PM to sign off a few things when he arrived on Thursday.

Meanwhile Dan Gavidi, a family member, has reminded all media outlets that any queries relating to the death of Ratu Meli,  be directed to Inoke Bainimarama.

He said Inoke would coordinate a statement on behalf of the family and would keep the media updated.
