Supporters of the World AIDS Day Campaign (WAC) were treated to a fashion show at St Mary’s Primary School grounds in Labasa on Tuesday.
The fashion show involved local designers and voluntary models.
Fashion show organiser and local designer Inoke Drauna claimed it was the first local fashion show in the North.
“It all about campaigning that AIDS will lose and at the same time showcasing local designers, models and talented individuals,” Mr Drauna said.
“Most people, especially in the North, were not aware about this merciless disease and the fashion show was a new way to get attention and the interest of people to be aware about AIDS.
Mr Drauna thanked Vodafone Fiji and Bank of Baroda for supporting the campaign.
“We were very happy about the number of people who turned up, especially the support from youth groups and participants of the World AIDS Day (WAD) programme.
Meanwhile, Democratic Governance analyst and World AIDS Day speaker Mohammed Mozeem stressed the need to achieve the global aim to end AIDS epidemic by 2030.
“This is something the current generation must do for future generations,” Mr Mozeem said.
“Ending the AIDS epidemic means young adults having proper access to education and health services. It means key populations like people who inject drugs and transgender people have full access to health services delivered with dignity and respect. It means that every child is born free from HIV and them and their mothers not only survive, but thrive.”
