Timely Boost For Council

In an effort to promote environmental sustainability, the BSP Westfield branch handed over rubbish bins and benches to the Lautoka City Council last Saturday.
BSP regional manager west Viliame Varasikete said the partnership was a testament of BSP’s inclusive and community approach which they had adapted when it entered the Fijian market.
“This is not about donations, it’s about our staff getting their hands dirty or providing sweat equity within the community,” he said.
“We took up the offer by the council to install benches at this renowned ground. BSP as you all know is a green bank in that we promote a culture of environmental responsibility.”
Mr Varasikete said littering was a growing problem that BSP was trying to address.
Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra said the partnership between the two bodies began in 2013 when BSP became the official bank for the Lautoka City Council
“In 2014 they wanted to start working in Churchill Park but we told them that the park would go through an upgrade and they decided to go with Nadovu Park,” he said.
Mr Nakauvadra said talks were in place to put similar bins and benches along the Marine Drive in Lautoka.
“I would like other companies and organisations to come on board and partner up with council and follow what BSP has done.”
