Lawyers Told Of Importance Of Quality Witnesses

The State and Defense lawyers were yesterday reminded of the importance of getting quality witnesses to take the stand during a trial.
High Court judge, Justice Salesi Temo made this comment during the appearance of Ilaitia Nalawa at the High Court in Suva yesterday.
Nalawa is charged with one count each of burglary, theft, and assault with intent to commit rape.
State laywer Yogesh Prasad yesterday informed the court that the State would be getting in 12 witnesses for the voir dire hearing on December 16 while the Defence would be getting in three witnesses which included the accused.
Justice Temo advised the lawyers that time wasting would not be tolerated by the courts because in previous cases lawyers had surpassed their timeframe for trials.
The case has been adjourned to December 16 to 18 for voir dire hearing before trial proper starts on December 21 to 24.
